Twitter wars are heating up with professional MMA fighters taking on would be fighters and a former ring girl. Plus, Ronda Rousey knows who she wants to win the "lamest Twitter" award--her next opponent, contender Sarah Kaufman.
But first, Ariel Helwani wins the "A in creativity" award from Strikeforce champion, Ronda Rousey for veering off the traditional interview question path by asking, "How deep into the gutter is your mind?" Listen and learn how this MMA diva handles, Helwani, the crown prince of online media, as she answers questions about why Dana White is giving her so much attention and whether she feels vindicated because she backs up everything that she says. video
No surprise in answer to the vindication question, Ronda responded with the message she intends to send with her next walk-out song, "How You Like Me Now?"
Ronda Rousey: "Do they give UFC awards for the lamest Twitter?"
It looks like Ronda Rousey's success with UFC president, Dana White is having an impact on the level of trash-talking interaction happening with other women in different weight classes. I landed on professional MMA fighter for RFA, Tara LaRosa's Twitter page and noticed an on-going Twitter war between her and former Strikeforce champion, Miesha Tate.
LaRosa (21-2) has been around the block a few times in terms of her fight career. Perhaps because of her tenure, Tara is stepping up her Twitter war game, demonstrating that you really can teach "an old dog" new tricks.
If her tweets are any indication, it looks like Tara LaRosa isn't willing to be put out to pasture yet. She's even taking on a ring girl/fighter.
Twitter War/Conversation about professional fighters missing weight at Invicta FC
As far as I can tell, a conversation started about professionalism and female fighters making weight. I wrote about that issue on this post, Can Invicta FC Women Make Weight Consistently? Four Fighters Weighed in Heavy: Fan's Look
The conversation took place with the following fans/fighters:
@RelentlessAMM (Alysha Mantooth - competitive boxer)
@RachaelCummins (fledgling MMA fighter / ring girl)
@MieshaTate (former Strikeforce champion)
@TaralaRosa (former champion at 135, now fighting for RFA).
Calling fighters out for missing weight
It all started with a conversation about the professionalism of fighters and making weight.
@RelentlessAMM said, "LOL!!! Hard to rationalize an elite fighter with a 21-2 record being called "unprofessional".
@MieshaTate responded, "a good record doesn't automatically mean you carry yourself as a professional, she missed weight... it's all about how you carry yourself and abiding by the rules like making weight. Tara has ripped on so many fighters."
@TaraLaRosa, "This is what you're not getting... I didn't rip on fighters individually, I was simply outspoken against the act.
Um, how is that different? Speaking in general--while avoiding attacking anyone personally--is still an attack on the culprit(s). Nice attempt at a dodge, but I'm not buying it.
Doesn't sound like LaRosa wants to tangle with Rousey or Tate anytime soon...
After her last fight, I posted a story wondering, RFA 2: Should Top Ranked Tara LaRosa Move to 135 to Join Ronda Rousey in Bantamweight Division? Fan's Look
Tara tweeted that she's not interested in fighting in the 135 lbs. weight class because she thinks that both Tate and Rousey would defeat her. "...Why do you think I'm so scared to go back to 135?! I know better!"
Instead of challenging other fighters, the girls are keeping their tools sharp by wrangling with fans/fighters.
Professional fighters are challenging fans and getting the "don't make me come down there" response
@MieshaTate on the get-a-clue-phone: "Alysha, no offense but you aren't a fighter and you don't know the whole story."
@RelentlessAMM with her response, "Miesha , I am a third gen boxer. And I have competed. So please don't go there with me...Yep. 3 generations. Anytime...anywhere ...Fighting speaks for itself... If you are looking for an opponent, I'm very close to Orange County...Otherwise, nothing more 2 say"
Well, OK. Here's a boxer vs grappler match-up in case the Strikeforce matchmakers are reading this post and looking for something interesting to keep Miesha occupied.
Back-handed Twitter slap from LaRosa to Racheal
Tara LaRosa retweeted this inflammatory message from @RachaelCummins: "Looks are deceiving! But I'll tell you this you're not gunna get far looking like a slob. Is that why you're so jealous of @MieshaTate?"
Tara LaRosa responded with, "Yeah honey, I know, but you're not one of them. Just hold your round card high, mind your camel toe, smile and look pretty, OK?"
So, apparently, Rachael Cummins is a fighter and a ring girl. Now, that's a dangerous combination. But, as Tara pointed out, Rachael is not at an elite level yet.
Looks like Twitter Talk 101 is in full swing with Ronda Rousey leading the charge and teaching women fighters how to dominate online and generate as much attention as possible. It worked for Ronda. Dana White, the chief executive likes it too.
