SEATTLE -- Drivers are confused by new street changes along the waterfront where the Washington State Ferries dock is located.
Welcome to day one of one of the city's biggest traffic revisions,rearranging how people get to the Colman Dock and the Bainbridge and Bremerton ferries.
It's all part of the viaduct replacement project. WSDOT spokesman Travis Phelps said contractors are moving utilities around, and even strengthening some dirt in preparation for the big tunnel boring machine that will start digging next year.
Heading south along Alaskan Way isn't that much different, but all the lanes are "ferry only" until you hit Yesler and have to turn right.
Northbound traffic is routed along the diagonal Railroad Avenue and then up underneath the viaduct. Then at Madison drivers make a u-turn to reach the ferry boarding lines.
It's not that there's a lack of signs; there are plenty. But some people seem confused about the street changes in the six-block zone.
