Upon investigating a vehicle parked in a lane of traffic on 110th Street at County OO Tuesday night, Lake Hallie Police found Earl F. Hammond sleeping behind the wheel.
Hammond wound up being arrested for OWI sixth offense, but not before police said he swore, made a fist and tried to position himself to hit the officer.
According to Lake Hallie Police:
Police Officer Travis Hakes approached the car at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, and found Hammond sleeping while parked at a stop sign with the engine running. Hakes woke Hammond, and smelled a strong odor of intoxicants. Hammond slurred his speech.
Hakes had Hammond perform field sobriety tests, which Hammond flunked. Hakes then told Hammond he was under arrest, and Hammond then swore and made a fist.
Hammond was taken into custody without anyone getting hurt. He was taken to a hospital for a blood draw and then to the Chippewa County Jail.
The results of the blood test should be available from the Wisconsin Crime Laboratory in two to four weeks.
The vehicle Hammond was driving was seized by police, who will try to have Hammond forfeit the vehicle.
