Traffic Travis | Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges

MOULTRIE - A driver spotted driving the wrong way early Saturday morning on a four-lane roadway faces a lengthy list of drug and traffic charges.

A Colquitt County deputy sheriff was notified at 1:01 a.m. by another deputy that he had seen a 2002 Cadillac Deville heading north on Veterans Parkway in the south-bound lane.

The deputy caught up with the driver of the car, Louis P Copridge, when he stopped at Econo Lodge, Colquitt County Sheriff's Office report said.

At the time, the reports said, Copridge smelled of alcohol and initially said he was confused about the lanes because he is from out of town. When the officer who made the original call arrived, Copridge did not remember why he had been stopped, the reports said.

Copridge was arrested when he failed a field sobriety test, at which time he was searched.

During the search, the officers found in his pockets suspected marijuana and cocaine, the reports said. A pistol was found in the floorboard of the vehicle.

Copridge, of 6026 Creekside Drive, Columbus, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana.
