Twitter | MP Pat Martin Not Sorry For Twitter Tirade

OTTAWA " New Democrat MP Pat Martin is making no apologies for his Twitter tirade Wednesday in which he dropped a couple of F-bombs after the Conservatives shut down debate on the budget.

"This is a f"ing disgrace . . . closure again. And on the Budget! There's not a democracy in the world that would tolerate this jackboot s"," he said in one Tweet.

"F" you," he later said in response to a Tweep disgusted by his potty mouth.

In an interview Thursday morning, the colourful and vocal veteran MP, said he "got pissed off," and with good reason.

"I was in the middle of voting in the House of Commons so I was sitting in my seat looking at the smug, arrogant, ignorance across the way," he said. "These people laughing, joking and running roughshod over democracy.

"It was an honest expression of frustration of somebody trying to do their job."

Martin said Canadians should share his anger as the government has shut down debate on six bills, the latest of which was the budget bill.

"People don't realize that that was the budget that they moved closure on. The single most important thing we do is give oversight to government spending and we're denied even that," he said.

"They're making a mockery of Parliament."

The Winnipeg MP, who is a construction worker by trade, said he was using "normal industrial language" and while some colleagues probably didn't love his phrasing, he believes they feel the same way.

In a statement Thursday, interim NDP leader Nycole Turmel said the language was not the right choice, but the message was.

"His language was not appropriate and could have been offensive to some," Turmel said. "That said, the Conservatives' actions are not appropriate in a democracy and (are) offensive to all Canadians."
